Dee-light for Melbourne as they trump Panthers
OUR club-by-club look at the Victorian Premier League Women’s 2nds and 3rds competition for Round 4, and which teams performed strongly, and whifh fell.
Box Hill
2nd XI
Batting first, the Bombers made 7/179 off their 45 overs.
Sunny Plant was the best of the Mustangs bowlers, taking 2/34 off eight overs.
In reply, only four Box Hill batters made double figures, and they were all bowled out for 138.
Jasmine Gouldson was the top scorer for the Mustangs with 37.
3rd XI
Batting first, EMP made 6/235 off their 40 overs.
In defence, the Bombers’ bowlers put on a stellar performance to bowl out the Mustangs for 127.
Carlton
Carlton had the bye in both grades last weekend.
Dandenong
2nd XI
Batting first, Melbourne made 9/220 off their 40 overs.
Nilakshi Perera was the best of Dandenong’s bowlers, taking 3/32 with two maidens.
In reply, a 70 from Erin Maxwell was not enough as Dandenong was bowled out for 188.
3rd XI
Batting first against Melbourne, Dandenong had a bit of a disaster with the bat, bowled out for only 98.
In response, Melbourne certainly took their time but were able to reach the target with a few overs to spare.
Essendon Maribyrnong Park
2nd XI
Batting first, the Bombers made 7/179 off their 45 overs. Grace Thompson top scored for EMP with 65.
In reply, only four Box Hill batters made double figures, and they were all bowled out for 138.
Leah Caluzzi was the best of EMP’s bowlers, taking 3/19 off nine overs. This included four maidens.
3rd XI
Batting first, an 80 from Ruby Gibson saw EMP make 6/235 off their 40 overs.
In defence, the Bombers’ bowlers put on a stellar performance to bowl out the Mustangs for 127.
Peri Kalka was superb with the ball, picking up 3/9 off her 4.3 overs.
Geelong
2nd XI
On the back of 129 from Maddie Green, Geelong made 9/236 off their 45 overs.
In reply, Prahran got so close to winning, falling four runs short of their target.
Shanaye Alexander was the pick of Geelong’s bowlers, taking two wickets.
3rd XI
Up against Prahran, Geelong bowled them out for 177 halfway through the 37th over, and then reached the target in the 37th over of their own innings.
Sophie Walsh took 4/19 off eight overs, which included two maidens. Meanwhile Maddison Fitzpatrick was the best of the batters for Geelong, making 40.
Melbourne
2nd XI
Batting first, Melbourne made 9/220 off their 40 overs.
In reply, the Dees were able to get the job done as Dandenong were bowled out for 188.
Breannon Sutton top scored for the Dees with 76, while Felicity Leighton was the pick of the bowlers for the Dees. She took 4/31 off her nine overs.
3rd XI
Bowling first against Dandenong, a stellar bowling performance from the Dees ensured Dandenong were bowled out for only 98.
In response, Melbourne certainly took their time but were able to reach the target with a few overs to spare.
With such a low target to reach, it was the bowlers who were the real star of the show for the Dees. Limansa Thilakarathna in particular was an absolute star, picking up 4/25 off her eight overs. Parry Jenkins also took 3/16 off her eight overs, which included one maiden.
Plenty Valley
2nd XI
After bowling Ringwood out for 183, Plenty Valley had a bit of a disaster in reply, being bowled out for only 51.
Zoe Rowley was the best of the bowlers for Plenty Valley, taking 3/38 off her 6 overs.
3rd XI
Plenty Valley had an innings with the bat that they’d rather forget as soon as possible. Batting first, they were bowled out for 35 after only 17 overs.
In response, Ringwood reach the target within five overs.
Prahran
2nd XI
Geelong made 9/236 off their 45 overs, but in reply Prahran got so close to winning, falling a mere four runs short.
Nikita Liyanage top scored for Prahran with 55 and took two wickets. Emily Sharkey also took two wickets.
3rd XI
Up against Geelong, Prahran were bowled out for 177 halfway through the 37th over.
Geelong then reached the target in the 37th over.
Chloe Harrison top scored for Prahran with 63, while Madeline Waring took two wickets.
Ringwood
2nd XI
After being bowled out for 183, Ringwood’s bowlers went on a rampage and bowled out Plenty Valley for only 51.
Alex Sheedy top scored for the Rams with 55, while Tegan Rule continued her excellent form with the ball from last week, taking three wickets.
3rd XI
Plenty Valley had an innings with the bat that they’d rather forget as soon as possible. Batting first, they were bowled out for 35 after only 17 overs.
In response, Ringwood reach the target within five overs.
After the batters were left with an easy task, it was the bowlers who were the star of the show for the Rams.
Stella De Roos and Jordyn Allen both picked up three wickets, while Mikayla Lewis-Simmonds and Rosie Sykes both picked up two.
NEXT WEEK
Both grades have a double header of T20s on Sunday, with game one starting at 10am and game two starting at 2pm.
