THE 2024/25 Big Bash League (BBL) season gets underway on Sunday, as the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars lock horns at Perth Stadium. The clash kicks off another bumper instalment of the Australian domestic T20 competition, and we take you through all you need to know before then.

SEASON STRUCTURE

All eight clubs will play 10 games each throughout the 40-match home and away season. Among each fixture allotment are three double-ups, including a pair of Melbourne and Sydney derbies. The regular season stretches across 38 nights and features six double-headers, including on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Game one is on December 15 and game 40 falls on January 19, before finals.

PLAYOFFS

The top four teams make the finals, set to be played out between January 21 and 27. The top two sides will battle for automatic qualification and hosting rights of the decider, while the third and fourth placed teams lock horns in a knockout bout. The loser of the Qualifier then meets the winner of the Knockout in the Challenger, to decide the second finalist.
