Fast knock leads Northcote to triumph

ANOTHER weekend of Victoria Premier Cricket Premier Men’s Firsts has wrapped, with plenty of impressive performances around the competition. In this series, we put the spotlight on one individual performance that may have caught the eye of teammates, opponents and fans. With plenty to choose from each week, it is worth mentioning that there will be some unlucky players that miss out on a weekly basis. This week, that honour belongs to Ringwood batsman Thomas Rogers, who produced a stunning knock of 118, which was the round’s highest individual score by a batsman for the round, so it absolutely must be recognised and commended.

This week’s Player of the Week award goes to Northcote batsman Jack Lalor, who seemingly did it all in leading his side to a terrific win over the Greenvale Kangaroos. He was able to deliver the highest score of the match in rapid pace, driving his side to an unbeatable total.

His side was sent out to bat first, and coming in fourth in his side’s batting order, some decent ground had already been made, particularly by the openers. However, this did not stop Lalor from delivering a memorable performance with the bat, producing a total of 94 runs despite just facing only 86 balls.

He was aggressive with bat in hand, driving his side’s score north of 200, thanks to his crafty work at the crease. He smashed a remarkable eight boundaries in this time, and the Greenvale bowlers seemingly had no answer for his work. By the time the 50 overs had been completed, Lalor was still at the crease, leaving fans and teammates left to wonder how high his score could have been.

Driving his side to a score of 249, Lalor had certainly done his job by the time the first innings had been completed. This ended up being a winning total, with the Kangaroos bowled out for just 127. There is no doubt that this victory would likely not have been possible if not for the impressive batting work of Lalor, who will be using this performance as a benchmark for future performances.
