Only Perth Scorchers wonderkid Cooper Connolly tallied more runs this season – 351 – en route to taking out the Golden Bat award. Teammate and Golden Arm winner Jason Behrendorff join he and Warner as debut entrants to the side, which was voted on by the competition”s eight head coaches.

Warner, Connolly, and Melbourne Renegades quick Tom Rogers all collected a maximum eight votes to signal full approval for their feats from opposition coaches. Sydney Thunder wicketkeeper Sam Billings had a low of three in a season where there was no true standout gloveman.

The team he crossed from, Brisbane Heat, is the only one wihtout a representative in the squad. The Thunder, Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes, and Melbourne Stars all contributed two players, while Adelaide Strikers lay claim to spinner Lloyd Pope along with 12th man Jamie Overton (three votes).

A revelation for minor premiers, the Hurricanes, Mitchell Owen is the hypothetical opener alongside Warner. The rangy big-hitter smashed 22 sixes in a 308-run season, which included an unbeaten century against Perth. He’ll spearhead the Cane Train into Monday night’s decider.

It was no surprise to see Stars figureheads Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell feature in the middle order having proven integral to their side’s new year revival. Power Surge expert Tim David also features down at number seven having established himself as arguably the league’s finest finisher.

The bowling unit of Behrendorff, Rogers and Pope is supported by Sixers allrounder Ben Dwarshuis. The power hitter and clutch surge bowler boasts one of the top five batting strike rates of the tournament, complimenting his 14 total wickets nicely. He slots in at number eight.
