IN A complete reversal of the first match between the sides, the ACT has beaten Western Australia by 78 runs to pick up its third win of the WNCL season. The Meteors made 9/253 from their 50 overs, before then bowling out the Western Australians for just 175.
Despite the decent score they ended with, the Meteors had a rough start to their innings, falling to 1/1 on the final ball of the first over of the innings, however that fortune quickly turned around when the home side when they put on a 78 run second wicket partnership.
They did waiver through the middle part of their innings, but an 80 run sixth wicket partnership gave the innings a second wind. As she so often does, Katie Mack once again topped the runs tally for the Meteors, this time making 85, and was ably assisted by a half century from Annie Wikman.
Meanwhile Amy Edgar was the pick of the Western Australian bowlers, picking up a trio of wickets.
In reply, the West Australians lost a wicket in the first two balls, then were 2/8 three and a half overs later.
The bad start really put the visitors on the back foot, which did not help them as they tried to chase down the target. They did have a 54-run partnership for the eighth wicket, but by that stage it was too little too later.
Grace Dignam picked up three wickets for the Meteors, doing most of her damage through the middle part of the innings. Holly Ferling and Anesu Mushangwe also picked up a pair of wickets each.
Meanwhile for the vanquished visitors, Mikayla Hinkley was the backbone of their innings, making 59.
Although neither of these sides can make the WNCL Final, they can both cause plenty of disruptions next week. The ACT are off to play neighbours New South Wales, while Western Australia hosts its neighbour South Australia.
