Harris hat-trick propels UP Warriorz to first win

PREDICTING her own hat-trick before the game, all-rounder Grace Harris became the first Australian to take one in the Women’s Premier League, helping her UP Warriorz to their first win of the season.
Beating the Delhi Capitals by 33 runs, Harris took four wickets in the contest in Bengaluru. According to her post-match, she joked about taking the hat-trick in the pre-game bowlers meeting.
She joined English bowler Issy Wong and Indian star Deepti Sharma in achieving the feat, taking the scalps of Niki Prasad, Arundhati Reddy and Minnu Mani. Earlier in the contest she took the wicket of fellow Australian Annabel Sutherland, taking her figures to 4-15.
The other match-winning contribution for the Warriorz, was that of the West Indian all-rounder Chinelle Henry. She top scored during the game hitting a blistering 62 runs from 23 deliveries faced. This included two fours and eight massive sixes for a strike rate of 269.57.
Outside of her score, the Warriorz struggled to trouble the bowlers from the Capitals, with only Henry and Tahlia McGrath managing to pass 20 runs for their team.
For Delhi, Jess Jonassen was the pick of the attack, taking four wickets for 31 runs in her allotted four overs. Reddy also took two, as did Marizanne Kapp, however the former was much more expensive with an economy of 13.
The Warriorz were defending 177 runs for the win with the pick of the batting being their young batting star, Jemimah Rodrigues. She hit 56 off just 35 balls for a strike rate of 160, the highest score by a Delhi player and the second highest strike rate.
Shafali Verma was important at the top of the innings, managing 24 off 30 balls, however due to the balls faced and low strike rate, she did not trouble the Warriorz as much as she would have liked.
Dangerous Capitals trio Meg Lanning, Kapp and Sutherland were all dismissed for under 10 each, meaning that it would be very difficult for them to win. After Verma and Rodrigues, only Prasad and Shikha Pandey were able to reach double figures, truly handing the victory to the Warriorz.
Alongside Harris, it was young Indian bowler Kranti Goud that was responsible for Delhi’s batting collapse. She took the crucial wickets of Lanning, Verma, Rorigues and Jonassen, while Henry and Sharma each took one scalp.
For the UP Warriorz, they will look to make it two wins in a row when they face the ladder leaders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday, while the Capitals will hope to rebound when they play the bottom-placed Gujarat Giants the day after.
