Delhi dance to top of WIPL table

DELHI Capitals have jumped to the top of the Women’s Indian Premier League ladder after a six-wicket win over the Gujarat Giants.
With her side chasing 128 for victory, Jess Jonassen led from the front for the Capitals, smashing 61 from just 32 balls to play a leading role in the victory. She was ably assisted by Shafali Verma, with the Indian youngster smashing 44 off just 27 balls.
Earlier, it was Bharti Fulmali – who was in for only her first game of the season – who helped rescue Gujarat’s innings with 40 not out off just 29 balls. Her knock came after the Giants had earlier fallen to 6-60 in the 11th over.
From a bowling perspective, Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland all picked up a pair of wickets each for the Capitals, while Kashvee Gautam was the only Gujarat bowler to take more than one wicket.
Delhi can now rest up until the weekend when they have to battle the Mumbai Indians. Gujarat meanwhile get one less day’s break before they have to take on the Royal Challengers Bengalaru.
