THE GUJARAT Giants have moved up to second in the Women’s Indian Premier League standings after a big 81-run win over the UP Warriorz.
The Warriorz sent the Giants into bat, and were celebrating that decision early when they had the Giants 1-3 at the end of the first over.
However that joy was short lived when Harleen Deol and Beth Mooney then put on a 101-run second wicket partnership to get things back on track, with the Giants going on to make 5-186.
Mooney in particular really led the way, smashing a whopping 17 fours on her way to 96, in an innings which more than doubled her runs tally for the season. Deol also had an excellent day in the middle, smashing six fours on her way to 45 from just 32 balls.
The one positive light for the Warriorz was Sophie Ecclestone, who took another pair of wickets.
In reply, it was a sign of things to come when the Warrior were left reeling at 2-2 at the end of the first over of the chase as Deandra Dottin heaped the pressure on early. Things only got worse for the Warriorz as they only managed two partnerships higher than in the teens, and then lost their last two wickets for no runs to be all out for 105.
Tanuja Kanwer and Kashvee Gautam were chief destroyers with the ball for the Giants, taking three wickets each, while Dottin finished with those two wickets she picked up in the first over.
