Mumbai momentum restored as finals hopes reignited

THE MUMBAI Indians have taken one step closer to qualifying for this year’s Women’s Indian Premier League finals after a comfortable win over the UP Warriorz last night.

Chasing 151 for victory, the Indians almost ran out of time to get the job done, but reached the target with nine balls to spare.

The start to Mumbai’s innings was solid enough, before Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews really sped things up, making a 92 run partnership off just 9.4 overs.

Matthews led the way in that partnership., smashing 68 runs off just 48 balls. Although Sciver-Brunt did not score as much, she scored at a quicker rate, making 37 off just 23 balls.

Earlier in the night the Warriorz actually go off to a really strong start – making a 74 run opening partnership – but the scoring slowed as the innings progressed.

After things did not quite go to plan on her debut, Georgia Voll made amends in what was her second game, top scoring for the Warriorz with an innings of 55 runs off just 33 balls.

From a bowling perspective Amelia Kerr was chief destroyer for Mumbai with a five wicket haul, while Matthews also picked up a pair of wickets before she went on to do what she did with bat in hand.

Meanwhile Grace Harris was the pick of UP’s bowlers with a pair of wickets to her name.
