Mustangs give Prahran True Blues
AFTER a rain interrupted start to the season, the Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket 1sts competition finally got underway last weekend.
Box Hill vs Prahran
Over at Box Hill City Oval, Box Hill sent a statement to the rest of the competition, easily accounting for Prahran.
Prahran batter first, and after losing their first wicket with only one run on the board things didn’t get much better from there. They were all bowled out for 91 in the 46th over.
Only three Prahran batters made double figures, with Samara Dulvin top scoring with 21.
For the Mustangs, it was skipper Zoe Griffiths who topped the picking up 3/9 off her 7.1 overs, which included three maidens. Isabel White and Danielle Montague each picked up two wickets as well.
In reply, it was no real trouble for the Mustangs, who got the job done in the 14th over for the loss of only one wicket. Rebecca Carter topped scored with 49 not out.
Carlton vs Essendon Maribyrnong Park
Carlton got their season off to a great start, defeating Essendon Maribyrnong Park.
Batting first, the Blues set an impressive target for the Bombers to try and match. A 61 run opening partnership set the tone for the rest of their innings, and Carlton finished on 5/289 off their 50 overs.
Nipuni Hansika starred with the bat for Carlton, scoring an almost a run a ball 95 not out. Eve Sheehan also had a good innings with the bat, scoring 53.
For the Bombers Milly Illingworth was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 2/53 off her nine overs.
Essendon Maribyrnong Park got off to a disastrous start in reply, with captain Alyssa Humphries dismissed for four. Things didn’t get much better from there and they were all out for 143 in the 41st over.
Siena Ferrara was the only one to make a decent score with the bat for the Bombers, making 56.
Madison Albers and skipper Adelaide Campion each picked up two wickets for Carlton.
Dandenong vs. Plenty Valley
Dandenong got their title defence off to the best possible start, defeating Plenty Valley.
Batting first, the Bats were bowled out for 164 in the 44th over. Aanliya Cheeran and Jasmine Nevins top scored for Plenty Valley, making 53 and 45 respectively.
Natalie Taylor, Cassie Stephens and Julie Fearns each picked up two wickets for Dandenong.
In reply, the Panthers were able to reach the target easily in the 37th over off the back of a 112 not out from Tiana Atkinson.
Melbourne vs Ringwood
In the final game of the round it was Melbourne who got the win over Ringwood.
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, the Rams were bowled out for 189 after 46 overs. Una Raymond-Hoey was the only one to make a decent score for the Rams, making 76.
Zoe Samuel was the top bowler for the Demons, nabbing 3/27 off eight overs. Anna O’Donnell and Hayleigh Brennan each took two wickets.
In reply, despite losing their first wicket for no runs the Demons reached the target comfortably in the 40th over off the back of 82 not out from Amy Vine.
Skipper Bhavisha Devchand took 2/22 off seven overs for the Rams.
