STELLA Campbell tore through the ACT Meteors to help her New South Wales Breakers side remain undefeated in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL). Campbell finished the match with an eye-opening 7/25 off eight overs to rip the heart out of the ACT and secure the win.

The Canberrans won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, they had to wait almost nine overs before they were finally able to get a wicket.

New South Wales openers Tahlia Wilson and Rachel Haynes put on a 34 run partnership before Wilson was caught by Katie Mack. They only made 15 more runs before Phoebe Litchfield was caught and then a further 10 runs before Ash Gardner was dismissed. New South Wales then found themselves at 3/58 after almost 16 overs.

That is when things started to pick up for the Breakers.Haynes and new batter Erin Burns put on a 60 run partnership before Burns was dismissed for 34. In the end NSW were bowled out for 260 in on the second last ball of the innings.

Haynes was the absolute star with the bat for New South Wales. She made it through almost the entire innings, but was ultimately dismissed in the second last over for 118. Without Haynes though, things could have been much more dire. The next highest scorer was Burns with 34. Apart from her, Anika Learoyd and Hannah Darlington were the only other Breakers to reach double figures.

For the Meteors, Amy Yates was an absolute star with the ball. Off her nine overs (which included one maiden) she took 4/56. Carly Leeson took 3/42, while Chloe Rafferty took two wickets and Zoe Cooke took one.

That is when things started to fall apart for the Meteors. When they found themselves at 3/23 after 6.1 overs, they knew they were in trouble. Things did not get any better after that. Campbell ripped through the Meteors’ batting line-up and they were bowled out for 53 runs in only 16 overs.

In the ACT’s batting card, there was one double figure score, two ducks and a who lot of other batters making around the four to six run mark. Extras co-top scored for the ACT with Leeson on 12.

Meanwhile for New South Wales, they only needed three batters to get the job done – Maitlan Brown, Campbell and Sammy-Jo Johnson. Brown took two wickets and Johnson took the one, but it was Campbell who was the true star with the ball.

She ultimately took 7/25 off her eight overs, which did include one maiden. It was also very tight bowling with only the two extras conceded in those overs. She almost had a hat-trick on several occasions. One of which was her final over where she took three wickets on non-consecutive balls.

These teams do not have to wait long to resume hostilities. They play each other again on Sunday.
