IT is roughly halfway through the 2021/22 Victorian Women’s Premier 1st season, so let us take a look at who might be the one to take home the Una Paisley Medal at the end of the season.

Batters

Nipuni Hansika (Carlton)

The Sri Lankan has come back this season in fine form. Often one of Carlton’s highest scorers in a game, she has hit 273 runs at an average of 68.25. This includes two not outs and three 50s.

Cailin Green (Carlton)

As one of Carlton’s openers, Green has played a part in many a good starts for the Blues this season. She has made 231 runs at an average of 38.5. This includes three 50s and a top score of 66.

Una Raymond-Hoey (Ringwood)

The Irishwoman has consistently been one of Ringwood’s best batters this season. Across five matches, she has made 223 runs at an average of 55.73. This includes three 50s and one not out performance.

Sophie Reid (Carlton)

The Carlton opener has been in ripping form in the early part of the season. Across six matches, she has hit a century and a 50 as part of her total of 305 runs so far for the season to date.

Amy Vine (Melbourne)

Melbourne has been the team to beat this season, and Vine has played a big part in that success. In five games, she has hit 257 runs at an average of a whopping 128.5. Her average is so high because she has only gone out twice. She has hit one century, one 50 and a high score of 116 not out.

Bowlers

Madison Albers (Carlton)

Albers has regularly been Carlton’s top wicket taker in matches this season, and rightly finds herself among the top wicket takers for the entire competition. She has also taken 12 wickets this season, with a 3/28 her best individual game tally.

Hailey Ferris (Ringwood)

Ferris’ 6/30 a few weeks saw her skyrocket up the top wicket takers tally. She has taken 13 wickets so far this season, but interestingly both her average and economy rate are better than both Hasrat Gill and Isabel White, who are the only players to have taken more wickets so far this year than her.

Hasrat Gill (Melbourne)

Gill had been an almost just as prolific wicket taker as Isabel White, having taken only one less wicket to date. Her best bowling innings did not result in as many wickets as White’s did, but her average, strike rate and economy rate are all lower then White’s. Whether this has anything to do with Gill having bowled significantly less overs then White is up for speculation. Regardless, Gill has still been a prolific wicket taker this season and should definitely be in contention for the Una Paisley Medal.

Chelsea Moscript (Dandenong)

The Dandenong veteran has only played the four games this season, but has certainly taken plenty of wickets and shown why she has been able to play at this level for so long. She has also taken 12 wickets this season, with a 4/50 her best individual game tally.

Isabel White (Box Hill)

White has been absolutely stellar with the ball this year, especially for someone so young. She has taken 15 wickets for the season so far, so she is well on track to beat her end of season tally from last season of 18. Not only that, if she averages one or two wickets a game for the rest of the season, she could beat last season’s leading wicket taker figure, which was Melbourne’s Rhiann O’Donnell with 25.
