India dismantle Barbados to book semi final spot

INDIA has made a statement on the eve of the semi finals, defeating Barbados to the tune of 100 runs and booking their place in the Semi Finals.

After Barbados sent them into bat, India lost a wicket early, but Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues got to work and put on a 71 run partnership to steer the ship of the Indian innings back on course.

The Indians had a mid winnings wobble which saw the Indians lose two wickets for a single run, but that turned out to be a minor bump in the road as the Indians ultimately went on to post 2/162 from their 20 overs.

Rodrigues was the top scorer with 56 not out, followed by Verma on 43.

Meanwhile for the Barbadians the wicket taking duties were evenly spread, with Hayley Matthews, Shakera Selman and Shanika Bruce each taking a wicket.

In reply, the fact that the Barbadians lost their first wicket on only the third ball of the innings was a sign of what was to come for them.

When they lost their top three batters inside the first five overs, then Barbados knew they really were in trouble.

Luckily for the Barbadians they were not totally bowled out by the time they had faced 20 overs, but as only two batters made a double figure score and with Barbados only scoring on about one third of the balls they face, the task was always going to be quite a tough one.

Those two batters to make double figure scores were Kyshona Knight with a score of 16, and Selman with a score of 12.

Meanwhile for the Indians, Renuka Thakur had another stellar game with the ball, taking 4/10 off her four overs.

Barbados’ tournament is now done, but the Indians now look ahead to the semi final stage and who they will meet. They await the result of one last Group B match to determine who they will play.
