SYDNEY Thunder have repeated history and bounced back onto the WBBL09 winners list with a 37-run win over the Melbourne Renegades.

In a sense of déjà vu, this was the second time the Thunder had beaten the Renegades in the space of a week.

Batting first, the Thunder made 5/190 from their 20 overs. Openers Tahlia Wilson and Chamari Athapaththu got the innings off to a solid start with a 67-run opening stance. Although the Thunder could not put together any more partnerships of that size for the rest of the innings, that opening run stance provided enough of a solid foundation for the Thunder to make the big score they did.

The solid force at the back of the innings was Heather Knight, who top scored for the Thunder with 52 not out.

Meanwhile for the Renegades Harmanpreet Kaur picked up two wickets, while Georgia Wareham, Sarah Coyte and Georgia Prestwidge each picked up one.

The Renegades’ start to their batting innings was a lot shakier in comparison, having lost two wickets already before they hit the same number of runs the Thunder made in their opening stance.

Then when Hannah Darlington struck and almost picked up a hattrick, things were getting very desperate for the Renegades.

Ultimately the Renegades kept losing too many wickets too regularly, which meant they were only able to put 7/153 on the board. The top scorer for the Renegades was Tammy Beaumont, who made 37 runs.

Meanwhile for the Thunder Darlington starred with ball in hand, picking up four wickets, while Marizanne Kapp picked up two wickets.

The Thunder are sticking around in Melbourne for their next game as they are set to take on the Stars on Saturday. The Renegades meanwhile are on the move, heading to Perth to play the Scorchers on Friday.
