It was another solid performance from Grace Nweke as the goal shooter dominated under the post. She is quickly becoming a staple in the Team of the Week with her ability to score with great ease and hold space making her a shoe-in for this round as she finished with 55 goals from 59 attempts. Joining her in the circle is Tiana Metuarau who well and truly stepped up to the plate in the absence of George Fisher. The goal attack had the ball on a string both inside and outside the circle, as her ability to open up the space and use her smooth movement to sweep across the ring allowed her to find plenty of space. She finished with a whopping 30 goals from 31 attempts at an impressive 97 per cent.
Moving into the midcourt and it was Peta Toeava that once again dominated the wing attack position. The crafty attacker was at her damaging best hitting circle edge with nothing but pace and precision. In fact, it did not even matter if she was not on circle edge such was her precision and smarts with ball in hand as she amassed 27 goal assists. Northern Stars centre, Mila Reuelu-Buchanan gets the nod at centre with her court play on show throughout the entire game. Her smarts and endurance allowed her to have an influence both in attack and defence as she racked up 25 goal assists and a deflection. The wing defence position falls to Renee Savai’inaea with the Southern Steel midcourter using her change of direction, quick hands and smarts to be a constant nuisance. She finished with two intercepts and three deflections to her name.
Down in defence Northern Stars, goal defence Elle Temu secured the start with her tenacity on full display. Her ability to close down the space, use her long arms and dynamic movement to pick up intercepts was second to none. She showcased her smarts to drop back into space and get hands to ball as she picked up three intercepts. Southern Steel goal keeper Taneisha Fifita was in the thick of things from the opening minutes with her physicality and ball winning skills on show. She was never out of the contest and used her fancy footwork to be a menace racking up seven gains.
On the bench is Amorangi Malesala with the Northern Stars goal attack using her timing and accuracy to post to have an impact. Joining her is Magic captain, Sam Winders, while Kate Burley also left a lasting imprint with her quick hands.
