2021 Stats wrap: SSN Round 2 and ANZ Premiership Round 4
ROUND 2 of the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season saw wins for the GIANTS, West Coast Fever, Sunshine Coast Lightning and the Queensland Firebirds. Over the ditch, the Round 4 of the 2021 ANZ Premiership winners went to the Northern Stars, Mainland Tactix and the Northern Mystics. We take a look at some of the standout performances and highest stats from the week.
Goals:
Fever goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler again put up the most shots of the round, sinking 55 goals out of 60 attempts to maintain an accuracy of 91.7 per cent. She also got the most rebounds of the round, with six in total. GIANTS captain Jo Harten had the most goals of a goal attack in Round 2, with 37 of 45 goals, including four Super Shots. She also managed three deflections and one intercept. Steph Wood again demonstrated her skills in setting up play out the front with 22 goal assists from 28 feeds, with teammate Cara Koenen putting up 43 goals. Shimona Nelson was dominate in the ring for the Magpies, sinking 40 goals from 43 attempts to maintain 93 per cent shooting accuracy.
Tactix shooter Ellie Bird scored the most goals in Round 4 of the ANZ Premiership, only missing one of her 55 shots to maintain a 98.2 per cent shooting accuracy. Grace Nweke from the Mystics remains as a standout again this week, sinking 51 goals from 55 attempts. Caitlin Bassett, goal shooter for WBOP Magic, is just behind her, sinking 45 during the game, as well as getting three rebounds. Bassett’s teammate Khiarna Williams leads the way in goal assists with 20 overall. Steel’s George Fisher was also dominant, maintaining 91.9 per cent accuracy with her 34 goals out of 37 attempts.
Midcourt:
The GIANTS Jamie-Lee Price was a real standout this round, with four intercepts, two deflections, five gains and 20 goal assists earning her a massive 96.5 Nissan Net Points. However Fever’s young gun wing attack Emma Cosh takes the lead in goal assists, with 23 from 34 feeds into the ring. Both Fever’s Jess Anstiss and Thunderbirds Shadine Van Der Merwe managed three gains, two intercepts and two deflections each, with Lightning wing defence Maddy McAuliffe just behind them with two gains, two intercepts and just one deflection.
Mystics Elisapeta Toeava was again a consistent and reliable wing attack, with 32 goal assist, 42 feeds, one gains and one intercept. Claire Kersten from the Central Pulse was also a standout, with 25 goal assists from 49 feeds. The Stars wing attack Gina Crampton was in good form, with 24 goal assists from 47 feeds, while fellow midcourter Lisa Mather managed four gains and three intercepts in wing defence.
Defence:
The standout in the defence end during Round 2 was the GIANTS goal keeper Sam Poolman, with eight gains, four intercepts, six deflections and three rebounds. Tara Hinchliffe also made quite an impact, managing six gains, five intercepts and two deflections for the Firebirds. Lightning captain and seasoned defender Karla Pretorius showed off her skills with five gains, two intercepts and six deflections. Shamera Sterling takes out the most deflections, with 10 overall, as well as three intercepts and six gains.
Steel goal keeper Taneisha Fifita was a standout during Round 4, with a massive nine gains, three intercepts and five rebounds. WBOP Magic’s defensive duo of Georgia Tong and Erena Mikaere demonstrated their impressive skills, with tong getting six gains and five intercepts, while Mikaere managed four gains and two intercepts. Kate Burley, goal defender for the Mystics, also managed for gains and two intercepts for the round.
