WITH Round 10/11 of the Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) season done and dusted there were a number of top performers once again as wins from Loughborough Lightning and Team Bath saw strong outings from their respective players.
Goals:
Loughborough Lighting goal shooter Mary Cholhok was her usual dominant self under the post taking her season total to 439 goals thanks to her 51 and 52 goal hauls, single-handedly adding 103 goals to her tally in just two games. Her strength under the post is undeniable, able to reel in the high ball and claim prime position inside the goal circle to keep the scoreboard effectively ticking over. Next in line is Manchester Thunder’s Joyce Mvula with the goal shooter impressing with her composure and fancy footwork to pile on a combined 74 goals after nailing 31 in her performance against Strathclyde Sirens and 43 against Leeds Rhinos. Rachel Dunn continued her strong form inside the goal circle taking her tally to 291 goals with Kim Borger on the same count, thanks to her output in Round 10/11. The final player in the top five is Karyn Bailey with the Surrey Storm goal shooter a rock under the post able to withstand the constant physical barrage to shoot truly for her side.
Shooting accuracy:
When it comes to accuracy, Severn Stars goal shooter Georgia Rowe is the player to beat, able to put up a wealth of shots and most importantly convert boasting a 94 per cent accuracy. Hot on her heels is Team Bath’s Borger, who has put up 291 of her 309 attempts to sit at 94 per cent. Donnell Wallam has returned with a vengeance after suffering a wrist injury in rOund 1/2, maintaining her dominance at the post by converting at 92.95 per cent while Mvula is upping the ante under the post sitting at 92.68 per cent accuracy. Sophie Drakeford-Lewis is the other goaler that has picking up where she left off in terms of accuracy only having missed 15 of her 190 shots this season.
Intercepts:
Towera Vinkhumbo is still head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to intercepts with the Strathclyde Sirens representative increasing her tally to 37 for the season after picking up six intercepts across her Round 10/11 outings. The ever-reliable Layla Guscoth maintained her defensive pressure to collect an impressive six intercepts, with five of them coming in her performance against London Pulse while Halimat Adio also made her presence felt with two intercepts to take her season total to 25. Alice Harvey also plied her trade with her quick feet and sticky hands enabling her to grab the ball out of mid-air and propel it back into attack for the Lightning as she recorded five intercepts for the round.
Deflections:
Manchester Thunder goal keeper, Kerry Almond has proven to be a force to be reckoned with thanks to her read of the play and long arms to swat away errant passes and create turnover opportunities. Almond leads the league with 48 deflections, with six of them stemming from this round. The next best is Funmi Fadoju with the London Pulse defender using her classy footwork to rack up the deflections and sit at 42 for the season. Vinkhumbo is a consistent defensive figure recording 39 deflections for the season while Adio is hot on her tail with 38. The final player in the top five is Leah Middleton with the Surrey Storm defender covering the court well to pick up 34 deflections for the season.
