The goal shooter position goes to Leeds Rhinos’ Sienna Rushton with the talented shooter making her presence well and truly felt in both performances. Although her accuracy wavered across both games she still managed to have a profound influence walking away with 31 and 26 goals respectively, proving to be a real rock under the post and dominate the goal circle with her body positioning and overall strength. Manchester Thunder goal attack, Eleanor Cardwell used her netball nous to drive into the circle with relative ease and use her strength to hold off opponents and claim prime position in the goal circle. Her dynamic movement gifted her plenty of space inside the goal circle and she made full advantage of it posting 19 goals and only missed one shot highlighting her impressive accuracy.
Playing out in wing attack for majority of the game instead of centre, Caroline O’Hanlon made her presence felt with her timing and silky footwork enabling her to hit circle edge with great precision. Her experience and netball smarts well and truly came to the fore as she delivered the ball on a silver platter to her goalers and made light work of the defence, weaving her way around. The centre bib goes to the ever-reliable Serena Guthrie with the Team Bath representative plying her trade through the midcourt and using her two-way running to control proceedings. London Pulse defender Funmi Fadoju, makes her debut Team of the Week after impressing in her two outings. She covered the court with great ease and used her defensive nous to limit the flow the opposition’s attack especially in her second game where she racked up 13 deflections and four intercepts to accompany her three deflections and one intercept the game earlier.
It is no surprise that England Roses and Team Bath defender, Layla Guscoth got the nod in the starting goal defence position thanks to her impressive timing to read the play and pick off passes with great ease. Pair that with her tenacity and overall netball smarts to limit the movement of her opponent and Guscoth had a stellar Round 8. She featured highly in the stats as well reeling in one rebound, seven intercepts and six deflections to really assert herself on the contest. Razia Quashie is quickly becoming a stalwart in the Draft Central Team of the Week with the Saracens Mavericks goal keeper impressing once again in Round 8. Her defensive nous, quick footwork and body strength is unmatched able to take her opponent out of the game with her smothering pressure and read of the play. She was a wall in defence for the Mavericks reeling in six intercepts while also managing four deflections.
On the bench is Loughborough Lightning goal shooter Mary Cholhok who was unlucky not to get the nod given her proficiency to post and smooth movement under the post. she posted 33 goals at a lowly 73 per cent compared to her lofty standards. Amy Flanagan was a force to be reckoned with through the centre for the Wasps while the final position goes to teammate Fran Williams as the defender picked up two rebounds, one intercept and four deflections.
