2022 ANC Team Preview: Tasmania

THE 2022 Australian Netball Championship (ANC) is just around the corner, and after a Covid induced two-year hiatus, the redesigned national second tier competition is back. 10 teams from across the country will be facing off in Traralgon later this month for the title.

In preparation for the tournament, we are going to preview each of the 10 teams that will be competing at this year’s tournament. Next up is Tasmania.

There are no prizes for guessing where Tasmania are from, with the squad representing the Apple Isle at these Championships.

Tasmania used to be represented in the ANL by the Tasmanian Magpies, but now that Collingwood has its own team, has done the same.

As such there are no current Suncorp Super Netball players or training partners in this Tasmanian team, the Apple Isle has drawn its talent from the local Tasmanian Netball League.

Interestingly enough, no members of the ANC side played for the Championship winning Hawks side, but four members of the ANC side did play for the runner up Cripps Waratah – skippers Ash Probert-Hill and Alex Vinen, as well as shooters Grace Pullen and Ash Turner.

Another four members of the Tasmanian ANC squad came from the Preliminary Finalist Cavaliers team – their skipper Shelby Miller, as well as Hannah Lenthall, Ellie Marshall and Hayley McDougall.

The remaining members of the squad have come from the Devon and Arrows sides.

This is not the first national championships for Macy Gonion this year, after having represented Tasmania at the Under 19 National Championships earlier this year. She will be joined in Tasmania’s ANC side by Devon team mate Gemma Collyer.

Zoe Gough was skipper of her Arrows side this season, and she will be joined at the ANC alongside fellow Arrow Jess Earney.
