THE 2022 Australian Netball Championship (ANC) is just around the corner, and after a Covid induced two year hiatus, the redesigned national second tier competition is back. A total of 10 teams from across the country will be facing off in Traralgon next week for the title.
In preparation for the tournament, we are going to preview each of the 10 teams that will be competing at this year’s tournament. Last but not least, it is the West Coast Fever.
The Fever reserves are the team from Western Australia, and replace the old Western Sting side from the Australian Netball League (ANL) days. They also have arguably the most high profile name at these Championships in their squad.
Former Aussie Diamonds’ star shooter Nat Medhurst is making her comeback to netball via these Championships, so will bring her talent and vast level of experienced to this young Fever reserves side.
There are also two current members of the Fever’s Suncorp Super Netball squad in the Reserves side, with Emma Cosh and Rudi Ellis set to take the court in Traralgon in the hope of proving to the Fever coaches why they should get more game time in 2023.
Three of the Fever’s four training partners from the 2022 season will also be travelling east, with Sloan Burton, Zoe Cransberg and Shannon Eagland all suiting up for the Reserves side. This leaves half the side who have come from the West Australian state league.
Emma Putt is a shooter from championship winning Western Roar side, who also was a part of the WA under 19 side at the National Championships earlier this year. She joins Roar team mate Chelsea Barlett in the Fever Reserves side
Caitlyn Brown was a member of the West Coast Warriors side that lost that Grand Final to the Roar, while Ella Taylor played in the Comets side that lost the Preliminary Final to the Roar.
Ingrid Moss and Jessica Repacholi both played in teams that did not have very successful state league seasons, so they will both be hoping to put that behind them and ensure that the Fever can go all the way this ANC.
