New Zealand Men remain undefeated while A side goes winless
The New Zealand Men’s side have finished the round robin portion of this Cadbury Series undefeated, after defeating the New Zealand A side 65 to 46.
Although winning the third quarter by ten goals really set up the scale of the win for the Men, but they won every quarter on their way to winning by 21 goals.
For the Men’s side, three of their four shooters shot at over 90 per cent (with the fourth still in the 80s), while Nick Grimmer (18 feeds and 13 goal assists), Ben Smith (17 feeds, 1 rebound and 13 goal assists) and Kevin Ball (17 feeds and 12 goal assists) all working hard in the midcourt as they rotated through.
Meanwhile for the New Zealand A side, Elisapeta Toeava (38 feeds and 18 goal assists) continued her good form this tournament, as was joined in midcourt by Samantha Winders (20 feeds and 10 goal assists). However, Ameliaranne Ekenasio was the only shooter to shoot above 90 per cent.
Silver Ferns bounce back against Mixed Invitational
After the loss on Thursday, the Silver Ferns bounced back with a 68 to 59 goal win over the Mixed Invitational side.
The Silver Ferns lead by four at quarter time, and five at half time, but only one the second quarter by a goal.
Although the Mixed Invitational won the final quarter, the Silver Ferns won the third by six so it was a case of too little too late.
For the Silver Ferns, Grace Nweke (46 goals from 50 attempts) and Maia Wilson (22 goals from 25 attempts) both had significantly better shooting percentages than the Silver Ferns’ shooters have had in previous days. Meanwhile up in midcourt Whitney Souness (33 feeds, 21 goal assists) and Gina Crampton (32 feeds, 21 goal assists) were certainly feeding them plenty of opportunities.
Meanwhile for the Mixed Invitational side Laura Scherian (35 feeds, 22 goal assists) was certainly giving the likes of Quintin Gerber (46 goals from 50 attempts) plenty of opportunities to score.
