2022 SSN lists: GIANTS Netball

A HUGE month of 2022 Suncorp Super Netball signing action is done and dusted, with all eight 10-player teams confirmed for the upcoming season and some intriguing changes amongst the ranks. It is time to run through each of the 2022 team lists, and next up is GIANTS Netball.

The GIANTS came so close in season 2021, finishing as minor premiers before falling short in the grand final off the back of a remarkable – somewhat underdog-like – season. But despite losing a couple of defensive prospects over the off-season they look like they are in an exciting position heading into season 2022. Departing defenders Sam Poolman (retirement) and Kristiana Manu’a (Central Pulse) have left a hole in the backline which the GIANTS have been quick to plug back up, plus they have adjusted their attacking lineup to account for the loss of Kiera Austin making for a relatively new-look squad for 2022. While the GIANTS have retained their winning midcourt rotation, the question for the grand finalists is whether they can return to their winning ways with a less experienced team next season. One thing for sure, is that the GIANTS will have a fire in the belly and nothing to lose as they aim to rid themselves of the ‘bridesmaid’ title.

Newcomers:

Lauren Moore (WD/GD/GK)

A versatile defender with the ability to play all three defensive positions, Moore is a huge acquisition for the GIANTS, offering variety and quick reflexes to the fray. While the former Swifts premiership player grew up playing circle defence she has spent much of her recent career out on the wing, so will be itching for a chance to prove herself in the circle.

Matisse Letherbarrow (GS/GA)

Developing goaler Letherbarrow has been elevated from a training partner position over the past few seasons, with a couple of on-court opportunities with the GIANTS over the past few seasons – first as a top-up player in 2020, and then as an injury replacement during 2021. With long range capabilities and plenty of smarts, expect the talent to take every chance on court.

Amy Sligar (C/WD)

The GIANTS are bulging with defensive midcourters, and former training partner Sligar is another who can add to the squad’s already exciting defensive capabilities. Having taken chances to prove her worth on the court in 2021, the talented prospect will look to add another layer to the midcourt and showcase her dash and dare in transition.
