2022 Suncorp Super Netball start date announced
THE 2022 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season officially has a starting date, with the competition moved forward to begin on March 26, in line to be played out in completion prior to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The earlier start date will not only allow a full 60-game SSN season – likely still 14 rounds and three rounds of finals – but also offer ample preparation for the Commonwealth Games, with the Australian Diamonds’ qualification confirmed earlier in the week.
Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan said she is happy to confirm a start date for the 2022 season, explaining that the league has balanced its commitment to a full season while also factoring in the athletes’ wellbeing leading up to a condensed fixture like what will be on show in Birmingham.
“We’re thrilled that a start date has been locked away, now our clubs and stakeholders have a date to work towards and fans can start to get excited for the start of the season,” Ryan said.
“The 2022 season marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Suncorp Super Netball competition, as we commence a new five-year broadcast deal with the Foxtel Group.
“The Commonwealth Games is one of the biggest stages for our sport, and we have brought forward the season to ensure the Australian Diamonds and international athletes have the best possible preparation.”
The 2022 SSN fixture is in the works, with the league collaborating with clubs and new broadcaster Foxtel Group on the 2022 fixture, including a Suncorp Team Girls Cup pre-season competition and the Grand Final date.
The fixture will include a number of marquee rounds and matches, as well as new time slots and new-look coverage on Fox Sports and Kayo.
