2023 ANZ Premiership Team of the Week – Round 5

IT is Wednesday, which does mean it is time once again for another ANZ Premiership Team of the Week.

After another weekend full of excellent performances, who stood out enough to make this week’s team?

GS: Grace Nweke (Mystics)

It was a big week for Nweke and her Mystics, with the star shooter delivering more than once over the weekend.

Against the Steel she shot 47 goals from 48 attempts, as well as recorded two rebounds, one gain and a deflection, and against the Pulse it was 46 from 49 attempts, one assist, a feed and a rebound.

GA: Georgia Heffernan (Steel)

In a solid performance from Heffernan despite the result, Heffernan made her presence felt both inside and outside the ring.

Against the Mystics, she finished with 20 goals from 29 attempts, as well as 15 feeds, 10 assists, four rebounds, an intercept, a deflection and a gain.

WA: Gina Crampton (Stars)

One of a dominant trio of midcourt Stars, Crampton really put in a shift against the Tactix. She finished with 42 feeds, 25 assists, one gain and an intercept.

C: Mila Reuelu-Buchanan (Stars)

Another Star who put in a solid shift on the weekend, Reuelu-Buchanan finished with 42 feeds, 19 assists, two gains and two intercepts against the Tactix.

WD: Samon Nathan (Stars)

Member number three of the Stars’ midcourt trio in this week’s Team of the Week, Nathan finished with two gains, two deflections and an intercept against the Tactix.

GD: Phoenix Karaka (Mystics)

Karaka makes the Team of the Week yet again, after a brilliant display in her side’s win over the Steel.

She finished with a whopping seven gains and six deflections, as well as three rebounds and two intercepts.

GK: Kelly Jury (Pulse)

Jury is having a stellar season, and had another pair of strong performances over the weekend despite her team losing twice.

Against the Magic she finished with seven gains, six deflections, three intercepts and a rebound and six gains, two intercepts and two rebounds against the Mystics.

Bench

Bailey Mes (Magic)

Much like Heffernan, Mes’ impact was felt both in and out of the circle in her side’s win over the Pulse.

She finished with 30 goals from 32 attempts, as well as six feeds, five assists, one intercept and one rebound.

Elisapeta Toeava (Mystics)

In a toughly fought battle for midcourt spots this week, Toeava’s figures would have earned her a starting spot in just about any other week’s Team of the Week.

Against the Steel, Toeava finished with 36 feeds, 28 assists and two deflections, and against the Pulse she finished with 35 feeds and 27 assists.

Kate Burley (Steel)

Despite her side ultimately going down, Burley put in another solid performance, finishing with five gains, four gains, two intercepts and a rebound.
