2023 NSL | Round 12 preview: Is it time for history to repeat?
ANOTHER weekend is upon us, which means there is another round of exciting Netball Super League action ahead of us.
It is a normal round this weekend, so everyone is playing and everyone is only playing once.
However, everyone is playing the same side they played back in Round 2, so there is a chance for history to repeat itself or for it to be rewritten.
This weekend begins in England’s southwest where the Pulse will be going to take on Team Bath.
Last time these two sides met it was a 30 goal lead to London, and the Pulse are coming off a massive win last weekend while Bath blew a chance to take the win over the Stars. With this in mind, things do point to a Pulse win but Bath will be keen to ensure that does not happen, especially since they are the ones at home.
Part two of Friday night’s triple header is at the other end of the island as the Sirens host the Stars.
These two come into this clash off very different games last weekend, but the Sirens will take confidence from the fact that they won last time these two sides met back in February. However, the way that the Stars won last weekend will give them confidence too, knowing that even if momentum is against them for large parts of the game, they can still come out on top.
Perhaps the most enthralling match of the weekend is the third match of the Friday night triple header, where Manchester Thunder are set to battle the Surrey Storm.
Last time around the Storm brought the Thunder’s 20+ game winning run to an end, but this time around Thunder are coming off a really big win and the Storm are coming off a tight win after a weekend off, so is that a sign that the break affected the Storm a bit?
Jumping ahead to Sunday, and it is the Rhinos taking on the Mavericks. Last time around it was a win to the Mavericks in the tightest result of that particular weekend, but two and a half months later the Mavericks are coming off a weekend off and the Rhinos are coming off a particularly bad loss. How much will those two factors play a part?
The final match of the weekend is in Wales on Monday night, when the Dragons host the Lightning. The Lightning were comfortable winners last time out, but will the fact that they are coming off a weekend off be a good thing or a bad thing? How much will the mental toll of a bad loss affect the Dragons?
