2023 NSL | Round 4 preview: Big round, big tests
FASTER than Jade Clarke dashing down the court, it is already the fourth round of the 2023 Netball Super League season. After an action packed double round weekend last weekend, this weekend is back to the traditional single round weekend but there are still plenty of fascinating factors at play to watch this weekend.
The weekend begins with a battle between the Celtic Dragons and Severn Stars, and while it is hardly a top of the table clash, it could still prove crucial in really kick starting the winners season. The Stars had an excellent win first up but struggled in their last two clashes, while the Dragons finally got on the board last week so will be keen to maintain that momentum into this week.
The second of tonight’s clashes is further north and further up the table. Loughborough Lightning will be seeking to keep their undefeated run in tact, while after taking a break last round Saracens are back to really kick start their season.
It’s going to be a big weekend for the Mavericks, with the North Londoners the only ones playing twice this weekend, also having to face the also undefeated Surrey on Saturday. With the Mavericks playing twice, it is Leeds who get the weekend off, and a chance to regroup after a less than ideal start to their season.
The other two clashes this weekend come from either ends of the table, but are both equally as important in the context of the season. Team Bath and Strathclyde Sirens battle it out tonight in Bath, while London Pulse and Manchester Thunder will be battling it out on Saturday in London.
The Sirens have got a win on the board, but Bath will see this as an opportunity for a win, especially since it is their home game. Further up the ladder, the Pulse will be keen to win at home and stay undefeated, while after coming off a bye, Manchester will be out for vengeance after they suffered their first loss in over a year last start.
