ROUND 8 of Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) displayed a lot of good performances from a range of different players. Big wins from the Saracens Mavericks, Wasps, Team Bath and Manchester Thunder headlined the round with a number of those players featuring highly in the stats.
Goals:
Loughborough Lightning’s most consistent goaler, Mary Cholhok maintains her pole position, scoring 33 goals against the Strathclyde Sirens to take her total to 295 for the season. Sneakily climbing her way up the ladder though is Sienna Rushton, now hot on the heels of Cholhok. Despite going down to Manchester Thunder, Rushton shot 31 goals to take her total to 219, surpassing Karyn Bailey, Kim Borger and Rachel Dunn, who are now on 198, 204 and 205 respectively. Borger spent a large chunk of time on the bench in Round 8 unable to add her usual amount of goals to her ever growing tally.
Shooting Accuracy:
Sophie Drakeford-Lewis continues her accuracy supremacy, shooting at 100 percent over the weekend against London Pulse. This brings her total shooting accuracy to 95.33 percent, only missing seven goals out of 150 put up for the entire season so far. Severn Stars goaler Georgia Rowe follows close behind Drakeford-Lewis, only missing one shot over the weekend to keep her total at a steady 94 percent conversion rate. Borger is steadily creeping up on Rowe, bringing up her total over the weekend to 94 percent, while Joyce Mvula continues to sit at a 92 percent conversion rate.
Intercepts:
Despite only gaining one intercept this round, Strathclyde Siren’s goal keeper Towera Vinkhumbo still takes out top spot. Her total intercept tally for the season is now 31, followed closely by Razia Quashie on 27 after getting three intercepts over the weekend thanks to her read of the play and sticky fingers to reel in errant passes. Rounding out the top five is Lightning’s Alice Harvey, Rhino’s Vicki Oyesola and Pulse’s Halimat Adio who are all sitting on a total of 19 intercepts for the season.
Deflections:
With Surrey Storm getting a week off, defender Leah Middleton has been bumped down to third spot for deflections. Leading the pack this week is Funmi Fadoju. Sitting on 34 deflections overall, Fadoju managed an impressive 13 deflections against the Rhinos during Round 8. Manchester Thunder’s Kerry Almond has made up way up to second spot with her eight deflections against the Rhinos, bringing her season total to 31. Lucy Herdman from Severn Stars and Vinkhumbo both round out the top 5 for the round, both sitting n 27 deflections each.
