One more SSN round until destiny is determined
THERE is one round left to go in this year’s Suncorp Super Netball season, but still so much left to be determined. For starters, there is still one finals sport up for grabs and four teams that can take it, so it is very much still all to play for for a number of sides.
GIANTS vs Sunshine Coast
Tomorrow at 7pm
Ken Rosewall Arena
There is not a whole lot to play for in this game for either side, but both clubs will still be keen to get the win on the board.
The GIANTS are safe in the finals, but do not safely have a home final secured, so that will be the ultimate goal for them this week, and to ensure they come out of the game injury free.
For the Lightning on the other hand their campaign comes to an end this weekend no matter what, so they will be looking to end it on a high and build some momentum into next season.
West Coast Fever vs Adelaide Thunderbirds
Sunday at 2pm
RAC Arena
This one is a bit of a dead rubber for the Fever, but they will definitely be keen to get some consistency into their game after a shaky few weeks.
For Adelaide on the other hand, it is a do or die clash, with the Thunderbirds needing to win in order to have any hope of making finals.
Unfortunately for the Thunderbirds, history is most certainly not on their side. Last time these two sides met, it was a nine-goal win to the Fever and this time around, the game is on the Fever’s home court.
NSW Swifts vs Queensland Firebirds
Sunday at 4pm
Ken Rosewall Arena
The second part of a Sydney weekend double sees the most do or die clash of the season.
Both sides need to win in order to have any hope of making the finals, and have to hope other results go their way in order to do so.
Whoever loses this match has got the easy job knowing what their destiny holds.
The winner though, will have to hope that Collingwood loses the next day and the percentages of the other sides around them are in their favour.
Recent history sways the way of Queensland, because back in Round 5 it was a comfortable 13-goal win to the Firebirds.
Collingwood Magpies vs Melbourne Vixens
Monday at 1pm
John Cain Arena
This is as dead rubber as you can get for the Vixens, but do not expect the minor premiers to go easy in this one. It is the Melbourne Derby, which usually produces some fierce competition from the two sides.
On the flipside of the equation, of all the teams chasing that final finals spot, Collingwood is in the best position.
Not only are the Magpies a game ahead of the chasing pack, but they play in the last game of the weekend, so they will know exactly what they need to do in order to make finals.
They will most likely need to win regardless, but may be able to sneak through on percentage depending on other results.
