2023 NSL | Round 11 preview: Time to rack up some miles
IT is Round 11 of the 2023 Netball Super League season already, and the start of the second half of the season. For some clubs, they really need to get a move on if they want to make something out of this season, while others need the wins to maintain their current position.
There is one win separating first and fourth at the moment, and two separating fifth and eighth, while only goal difference separate the top three. That’s how close this season is. Turning to this weekend’s action, and there are four matches on the menu for this weekend, all with plenty of travel involved for the away sides.
The weekend begins in Cardiff with a clash between the Dragons and Thunder. In a clash like this between third place and last, this could get very one-sided, especially since the Thunder will be looking to boost their goal difference as they comfortably have the lowest goal difference in the league.
Moving on to Saturday’s action, and the day starts in Bath hen Team Bath play host to the Severn Stars. Both these sides are coming off very different results last week, so how much will that play a part in this week’s results? Last time it was a comfortable win to the Stars, so can Bath turn it around this time?
The second of Saturday’s matches is in London, where the Pulse are set to host the Rhinos. Now before last weekend this clash would have looked very different on paper. Both sides are now coming into this clash full of confidence of the back of big wins for very different reasons, so although the Pulse will go into the match as favourites, will the Rhinos be able to use the confidence from last week and keep momentum going?
The final match of the weekend sees the Storm travel up to Scotland to take on the Sirens. The Storm are coming off a week’s rest, so how will that affect them and their readiness to play, and can the Sirens bounce back from a tough loss last weekend?
With only four matches on the card that does mean we do not get to see two sides in action this weekend, with the Lightning and Mavericks both having the weekend off.
