IT was a good weekend for the visiting sides in the SSN last weekend, with all four travelling sides recording the win.

Mavericks escape with narrow win, keep finals hopes alive

The Melbourne Mavericks are still in the hunt to make finals in their debut season after coming away with a win over the GIANTS by the narrowest of margins.

The Mavericks lead by five goals at the final change after the first half was a draw, and despite the GIANTs outscoring them in the last term it was not enough a those in Orange fell agonisingly short.

It was a game for the defenders.

Kim Jenner (six deflections, five gains, two intercepts) and Olivia Lewis (five gains, three deflections, two intercepts) racked up the gains for the victors, despite the former’s involvement in a controversial head clash with Amy Sligar.

Meanwhile for the GIANTS it was namely Jodi-Ann Ward (five gains, four deflections, three rebounds, one intercept) and Sligar (four gains, four deflections, three intercepts) who starred, despite the latter’s involvement in the head clash with Jenner.

Lightning win big in Battle of Bruce

It was a Queensland Derby to remember for the Sunshine Coast Lightning, who have one foot in the finals after a 16 goal win over the Queensland Firebirds.

Most of the damage was done in the second term, which the Lightning won by 10 goals, which proved crucial when things tightened up in the second half.

Leesa Mi Mi (43 feeds, 21 attempts, two gains, two intercepts) had a massive game for the Lightning, as did Cara Koenen (55 goals, three feeds, two assists).

On the other side of the equation, Remi Kamo racked in a whopping six gains while Macy Gardner (30 feeds, 17 assists) also had a solid game.

Fever pinch nailbiter in Melbourne

The West Coast Fever made it a second nail biter for the weekend, downing the Melbourne Vixens by the narrowest of margins.

The two sides went into the final quarter on level pegging, and with 20 seconds left the Fever were three goals ahead, before the Vixens nailed a super shot but ran out of time to completely eliminate the deficit.

Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard (60 goals) was massive in attack for the Fever, as did Kadie-Ann Dehaney (eight deflections, seven gains, five rebounds) in defence.

Meanwhile for the Vixens Zara Walters (48 feeds, 28 assists) was huge for her side, while Kiera Austin also had a solid game.

Thunderbirds repeat history, place one hand on more

The Adelaide Thunderbirds won the Grand Final replay yet again, downing the NSW Swifts by 12 goals to move one step closer to the minor premiership.

Adelaide lead at each of the first three breaks, growing its lead as it went so that by the time the Swifts went on to win the final quarter it was a case of too little too late.

For the Thunderbirds Romelda Aiken-George (43 goals) and Georgie Horjus (40 feeds, 22 assists) had massive games, while Teigan O’Shannassy (five gains) and Maddy Proud (38 feeds) were the most impressive for the Swifts.
