IT has been a big year of Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) that saw a host of new faces enter the league. While many may have been elevated training partners due to the extended bench there are a couple of players who made their long-awaited SSN debut with one boasting international experience. Draft Central has composed a countdown of the Top 15 SSN debutants for 2020 and kicking things off at number 15 is Tyler Orr.
After a late call-up to the Magpies as an injury replacement player, Orr made her debut for the black and white in Round 10 and had an immediate impact. Playing at her home stadium in Adelaide the talented midcourter took like a duck to water, inserted into the action from the get-go and influencing the play. Her overall court coverage was impressive, able to ply her trade at both ends thanks to her defensive and offensive attributes, along with her high endurance. Having limited preparation time with the side, Orr was not overwhelmed by the opportunity to perform on the SSN stage, instead stepping up to the plate and showcasing her bag of tricks to make a name for herself while out on court.
Although she only managed limited minutes on court she racked up four appearances credit to her ability to come out and get the job done. She consistently highlighted her confidence to back herself in and deliver the ball into the circle to the likes of Shimona Nelson, Emma Ryde and Gabby Sinclair while her skill to find circle edge also came to the fore. Her connection with fellow midcourters Molly Jovic and Kelly Altmann was also impressive, able to combine, read the space and provide an attacking option time after time to keep the ball moving for Collingwood. Orr showcased glimpses of her aerial ability, getting up to the high balls in the pocket and dragging them down while her drive to draw the defender was another key aspect of her game play. She was not afraid of the contest, often throwing her body on the line to chase down a loose ball or weather the physical storm from the bigger bodied and more experienced midcourters. Her transitional play was also solid, knowing when to clear out and when to drive into the space to receive the pass and move the ball along.
Her twinkle toes were on display, often dancing around the circle to create attacking forays for the Pies while her read of the play enabled her to get hands to ball and regain some possession for Collingwood. The talented midcourter who can play both wing attack and centre finished with 11 goal assists and four deflections and although costly with ball in hand given she recorded 14 general play turnovers, proved she is a real force to be reckoned with and has a bright future.
