Defenders delight as duo tie for VNL MVP

IT was a big night for the Victorian Netball League (VNL) last night, with the annual awards night taking place.

In the Championship Division there was a tie for the MVP, with Sophie Hanrahan and Jessie Grenvold tying for the award.

The win caps off a year that was just about perfect for Hanrahan, who was a part the City West Falcons’ premiership win last week. She polled in 10 games.

Meanwhile for Grenvold, the win caps off a massive year, which saw her move across from South Australia to take up a training partner position with the Melbourne Mavericks and become a pivotal part of the Southern Saints’ defence.

Both players also made the Team of the Year, joining Geelong’s Brooke Allan and Melbourne Uni’s Gabby Coffey in the defence quartet.

The Hot Shot award for leading shooter went to Jane Cook, who shot over 1000 goals this season.

Meanwhile in the Under 23 awards it was a big night for Charlize Gabel Joseph, who swept every award she could possibly win.

The Peninsula Waves’ shooter not only won the league MVP, but also won the league hot shot award for the second year in a row and made the Team of the Year for the second year in a row.
