Diamonds announce squad for NZ & England series
AUSTRALIA has announced its 14 player squads for the upcoming series against both New Zealand and England.
The squads are not identical, but will feature most of Australia’s Gold Medal winning Commonwealth Games squad in at least one of the series.
The notable omission from both squads is Ash Brazill, who opted to make herself unavailable for the series so she could spend more time at home with family and have a break.
There are some additions to both squads who missed out on the Commonwealth Games team, but get to don the Green and Gold on home soil instead.
The five members of the original Commonwealth Games squad who missed out on the final list – Pie Sophie Garbin, GIANTS duo Sophie Dwyer and Amy Parmenter, and Swifts pair Maddy Proud and Maddy Turner – will play at least one of this pair of series.
The three Commonwealth Games travelling reserves – GIANT Jamie-Lee Price and Firebirds pair Ruby Bakewell-Doran and Donnell Wallam – also get to be a part of at least one of these series, and for Bakewell-Doran and Wallam it is a chance to potentially pull on the green and gold for the first time.
Diamonds head coach Stacey Marinkovich is excited about the upcoming two series and building on what they achieved at Birmingham.
“The upcoming international series against New Zealand and England gives us a unique opportunity to continue to solidify what we have been building over the last 18 months and what we delivered at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games,” Marinkovich said.
“While we are extremely proud of the result recently achieved at the Commonwealth Games, we learned that the depth and competitive nature of international netball is ferocious. I am looking forward to reconnecting with our squad as everyone will be refreshed and re-energised to align our focus towards the 2023 Netball World Cup build.
“We will continue to develop and challenge the depth of our squad enabling players to make their contribution in building our way forward.”
