Dust settles with big wins in Junior M-League

AS THINGS came to a conclusion for the Juniors of the M-League last week, there was hardly a surprise among the results but some teams certainly finished the season on a high.

14 & Under

In the battle of the top two, it was the ladder leading St Therese who came out on top, defeating WDNA by 14 goals.

Although, it was WDNA who led by one goal at both quarter time and half time, but the second half was a different story.

St Therese lifted their scoring in the third term, and their defence also really lifted which restricted WDNA to only four goals for the quarter.

St Therese maintained that dominance in the final quarter to run away with the solid win.

Seamus Sullivan and Jack Shaw were among the best for St Therese, playing across midcourt and defence, while Elijah Baker was a shining light for WDNA in wing attack and goal keeper.

In the other Under 14s match, Melbourne Up and Comers finished up their season with a dominant win over TBC.

It was close in the first quarter, but once the second quarter hit the Up and Comers started to put the foot down and never looked back.

The Up and Comers doubled TBC’s score for the quarter in the third which really put the final nail in the coffin for the result.

Ayden McCleish starred in the in for the Up and Comers, playing in defence for three quarters before switching to the other end to help seal the win.

17 & Under

In the Under 17s St Therese made it two from two for their club to round out the season, defeating Peninsula by 15 goals.

Peninsula actually got the better start to the game to lead by four at the first change, but a 12 goal to six second term turned things around for St Therese.

This really was the turning point for St Therese as they outscored their opponents in both the third and fourth quarter to run out victorious.

A 10 goal last quarter from Josh Francis helped capped off the win for St Therese, while Ben Morgan was solid up the other end for St Therese.

Meanwhile for Peninsula Jake Birds was a star in a tough night at the office, running out the whole game in centre.

In the other Under 17s game it was WDNA who capped off their season with a win over Darebin.

A dominant first quarter set up the win for WDNA, who held on for a nine goal win as things tightened up after quarter time.

Daniel King was the star for WDNA and a solid rock in defence, while Ben Holehouse was one of the shining lights for Darebin and at times lined up on King.
