Exciting 2022 of netball coming up for Rookie Me Central

IT is going to be a huge one. In 2022, Rookie Me Central will be looking to go bigger and better than ever across its sporting platforms. For netball, there will be an abundance of content throughout the year analysing everything from international tournaments to state-based competitions.

International tournaments

The new year will start off with a bang as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa all travel to England to take on the Roses in the 2022 Quad Series from January 15-19. That international event will be the lead-up to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where the Roses will look to back up their remarkable 2018 heroics over the Diamonds. Also at home in Birmingham, there has never been a bigger time to be a Roses fan. That will run from Friday, July 29 through to Sunday, August 7.

National tournaments

The United Kingdom-based netball fans will get a treat when the 2022 Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) kicks off on February 6. The 20-round season which also features two double-header rounds including the opening bonanza, will run until May 29. From there, the finals will commence in June ahead of the Commonwealth Games the following month.

Down in New Zealand, the ANZ Premiership begins on Sunday, March 13. That will also run until the weekend of May 29-30, with the 12-round season seeing 48 games played out across the two-and-a-half month league.

Just across the Ditch, the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) starts the latest of the three major national competitions. The first centre pass is on Saturday, March 26, and the 14-round season commences on the Queen’s Birthday weekend. An all-Victorian rivalry between the Magpies and Vixens concludes the season, then the finals run throughout June for the 2022 SSN Grand Final to take place on Saturday, July 2.

Australian coverage

From a national level, the Australian Netball Championships are set to take place in Traralgon after the 2021 event was cancelled this year. When that goes ahead, Rookie Me Central will be there to cover it.

We have been following the Victorian Men’s & Mixed Netball Association (VMMNA) M-League across November and December. That recommences on January 12, and will run through until the final on February 23. We will have all the previews and reviews of the that action for you.

From a state-based perspective, the 2022 Victorian Netball League begins on March 16, with the longest of all the netball competitions we are covering. That 18-round season will wrap up on July 20, with the finals to run through the Commonwealth Games and the Grand Final to take place on August 10.

Across the nation we will keep a close eye on the other states such as the Sapphire Series (Queensland) and South Australian Premier League.
