Liz Watson out for 2021 SSN season

MELBOURNE Vixens and Diamonds midcourter Liz Watson will miss the entirety of the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season after having surgery on her Navicular bone today.

Watson has had a long-standing foot injury that she has been managing throughout her career, but now has deteriorated to the point of needing surgery.

“This news came as quite a shock, but speaking to the surgeon, it was clear that this had to happen now for me to get back  out there and play,” Watson said.

“The medical staff at the Vixens and Diamonds have been great in helping me manage this injury, and I thank them for the support so far and know I’m in good hands for my recovery.”

The highly talented midcourter was an integral member in the Vixens premiership winning side last year and will leave a large whole in the new-look attacking unit with the retirement of Caitlin Thwaites and Tegan Philip.

Watson will remain part of the Vixen’s squad for 2021 in an internal leadership capacity with a replacement for her yet to be announced.
