Midweek round number two sees teams put to the test again
IT is time for the second and final mid week round of the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season, and as the SSN season train rushes towards finals, the ladder is tight and the pressure on some teams to win increases.
Sunshine Coast Lightning vs NSW Swifts
Tonight at 6pm AEST
USC Stadium
Last week the Sunshine Coast Lightning push the Fever at times but ultimately could not get over the line.
The Swifts on the other hand really ran away with their match on the weekend against the Thunderbirds, but they did not have it all their own way. So if the Lightning have done their homework, they will look to exploit that and create pressure on the Swifts.
The Swifts are knocking on the door of the top four so will be keen to win to stay in touch, while the Lightning are only a game behind the Swifts, so need to win to not fall too far behind in the race for the top four.
West Coast Fever vs Melbourne Vixens
Tonight at 6pm AWST
RAC Arena
The top of the table clash that is sure to delight fans both neutrals and supporters alike.
Last time around the Vixens got the win in the last mid week fixture, which was the Fever’s first loss of the season.
Both sides had tough matches last start so will be battle hardened for what they will no doubt face tonight.
Now both these sides sit three games ahead of the rest of the pack, but with five matches still to be played they cannot afford to rest on their laurels yet, especially with the unpredictable nature of this season. A win tonight will also go a long way to securing a top two berth for either side.
Collingwood Magpies vs GIANTS Netball
Tomorrow at 6pm AEST
Silverdome, Launceston
The battle of the AFL aligned clubs sees netball return to Tasmania for the second straight round, except it is Launceston that gets to enjoy the SSN fun this time around.
Collingwood were dominant in their win over the Firebirds on the weekend but will be looking to avoid the late run that the Firebirds got happening again tomorrow night.
The GIANTS on the other got so close to downing the Vixens on the weekend but fell short in extra time.
This is a battle of fourth versus sixth, but both sides are on the same number of points so whoever wins draws closer to the top two and the loser remains stuck in the crowded chasing park.
Adelaide Thunderbirds vs Queensland Firebirds
Tomorrow at 7:30pm ACST
Netball SA Stadium
Although they started well against the Swifts on the weekend, they fell away late and suffered a big loss.
Queensland on the other hand rallied late against the Magpies after the scoreboard ballooned out to bridge the gap.
The Firebirds currently sit in third place, so a win would draw them closer to the top two, while the Thunderbirds are only a game behind the Firebirds, so need to win to not fall too far behind in the race for the top four.
Last time around the margin was 10 goals in favour of the Firebirds, so will the Thunderbirds be able to reverse the result or will history repeat itself?
