A former NSW Swifts goaler and two-time premiership player, Sophie Garbin is one of the most underestimated players in the Suncorp Super Netball. A great developing goal shooter hailing from Western Australia, Garbin has the potential and drive to become a highly reliable player, as she continues to look for greater court time. While she has proved capable of holding strong for the full 60 minutes, as of yet she has been unable to consistently showcase that endurance and will be hoping a fresh start at the Collingwood Magpies in 2022 will do the trick. Her effort is unquestionable, always putting in 100 per cent and using her strong movement to have an impact in the goal circle.
Although Garbin is not the fastest player on court, her impressive vision, footwork and netball smarts set her apart from fellow goalers. Her newfound versatility to rotate into her non-preferred position of goal attack will certainly come in handy with the Magpies, too. Garbin’s ability to change up her game style from a holding shooter to a moving one is also important while her split allows her to claim to pivotal space in the circle and edge closer to the post, providing an accurate and threatening option if she is allowed the room to move. Heading into a new-look circle at the Magpies will give Garbin a vital opportunity to showcase just what she is made of and further develop her craft in the black and white, especially as they head into a real growth period at the club.
