PREVIEW | 2024 ANZ Premiership – Round 15
This is it, the final round of the 2024 ANZ Premiership season.
Once last chance to tune up for finals, secure a spot in the finals or just play in 2024.
MATCH OF THE ROUND
Central Pulse vs. Mainland Tactix
Monday at 7:30pm
TSB Arena, Wellington
In a poetic twist of fate, the entire season culminates in a top of the table clash, and it is an important top two clash as there is a lot at stake in this clash.
Currently, all that splits the first placed Tactix from the second placed Pulse is 0.2 per cent. That is it. Their win/loss count is the same and their bonus point count is even the same, the Tactix have just scored 10 more goals and conceded five more goals.
To put it simply, win this match and you earn yourself a week off and a spot in the Grand Final. Lose, and you are in a sudden death elimination final next week.
The two times these two have met already this season produced some pretty small margins, so it will not be surprising if the game on Monday night produces a margin of a similar margin.
Back in Round 5, it was a low scoring match but the Pulse ultimately won every quarter by at least a few goals to emerge with a six goal win.
Five weeks later, in a match where the lead chopped and changed several times, the Tactix ultimately emerged victorious in an overtime thriller.
Both sides have found themselves in this position for a reason, with both sides littered with international talent. Both sides have one shooter in the top five in the league for goals this season (Ellie Bird and Martina Salmon) and at least one defender in the top five in the league for both intercepts and deflections (Kelly Jackson, Karin Burger and Jane Watson). Expect a hard fought battle in both shooting circles on Monday night.
