PREVIEW | 2024 SSN Preliminary Final

THE Suncorp Super Netball has one grand finalist for 2024, and tomorrow the second will be decided.

The Melbourne Vixens and the West Coast Fever are both perennial finalists in recent years, but which one will make it back into the Super Netball Grand Final for the first time since 2022?

PRELIMINARY FINAL

Melbourne Vixens vs West Coast Fever
Tomorrow at 5pm local
John Cain Arena

RECENT FORM

The Melbourne Vixens are currently on a three-match losing streak, which for a team that has only lost four times all season could not have come at a worse time.

Meanwhile the Fever come into this clash off an impressive performance in last week’s elimination final, and showed the kind of top class side they are.

2024 HISTORY

Tomorrow’s match will be the third between the sides this season.

The first time was back in Round 7, and that day the Vixens had a big 11-goal win to hand the Fever their first loss of the year. West Coast jumped out to a three goal lead at quarter time, but the Vixens flipped the script in a big way in the second quarter to win the quarter by nine goals and go one to control the game from there.

The second match was just a few weeks ago, which saw the Fever escape with a narrow one-goal win. The two sides went into the final quarter on level pegging, and with 20 seconds left the Fever were three goals ahead, before the Vixens nailed a super shot but ran out of time to completely eliminate the deficit.

KEY PLAYERS

Although the West Coast Fever have a number of top quality players, the one the Vixens really have to concentrate on is Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard.

She is an absolute solid rock under the post for the Fever, with very few defenders in the competition able to stop her, especially because she is well supported by fellow shooters Olivia Wilkinson and Shanice Beckford.

None of the Vixens defenders are taller than Fowler-Nembhard either, so Rudi Ellis, Emily Mannix and Jo Weston will have to get creative in their plan to stop her.
