PREVIEW | 2024 Suncorp Super Netball – Round 13

WITH only two weeks left of the Suncorp Super Netball season, things are really starting to heat up on the court and tighten up on the ladder.

SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL

MATCH OF THE ROUND

Queensland Firebirds vs. Sunshine Coast Lightning
Saturday at 7pm
Nissan Arena

A Queensland Derby normally brings plenty of spice, but this one will bring extra because there is just so much on the line for both sides/

The Lightning currently sit in fourth, and only by percentage are they in the top four, while the Firebirds are in sixth, one game behind the Lightning. However, the Firebirds have a better percentage than the fifth placed Mavericks, so if things go to plan for them this weekend they could very easily jump into fourth.

Last time these two sides met was back in Round 7, with the Lightning coming away with an 11 goal win. The tone of the match was set pretty early with the Lightning already seven goals up at quarter time, and was extended even further in the third term.

The Lightning attacking third could go a long way in determining how this match plays out. The Lightning attack end of Cara Koenen and Steph Fretwell have helped the Lightning record the second highest goals scored tally in the competition, which is a stark contrast to the Firebirds’ defence end of Ruby Bakewell-Doran and Remi Kamo, who have conceded the second most amount of goals in the competition this season.
