THIS is it. The final round of the 2024 Victorian Netball League season is upon us, presenting one last chance for sides to tune up for finals, make finals, or finish the year on a high.
As things sit at the moment, only the City West Falcons and the Boroondara Express have booked their place in the postseason, while three more sides – Hawks, North East Blaze and Geelong – are still in the running for the final two spots.
All three of those teams still fighting for a place do not have the easiest of assignments tonight.
The Blaze have to play the Express, and off the back of a nine goal loss to the Express the last time the two sides met back in May, the Blaze will be hoping history does not repeat.
Meanwhile the Cougars and Hawks have to play each other, in what might turn out to be an elimination final.
Geelong has to win no matter what if they want to make finals, but if the Hawks do lose and the Blaze lose, they will still likely play finals thanks to a strong percentage that is currently the second best in the entire league.
Last time these two sides met back in May it was a tight two goal win to the Cougars, so Geelong will be desperately hoping to repeat that result tonight.
In tonight’s other matches, the City West Falcons have one last chance to fix anything before finals when they take on Casey tonight. Casey meanwhile will be looking to just finish the year on a high.
Bendigo and the Western Warriors will look to finish their up and down debut campaigns on a high when they take on Melbourne Uni and the Southern Saints respectively.
