PREVIEW | VNL Round 3 – No rest for the wicked

ROUND 2 of the 2024 VNL season may have only finished yesterday, but it is already time again for Round 3.

There is one match set to take place tonight, with the Boroondara Express welcoming the Casey Demons to the Boroondara Sports Complex.

The match is set to take place between two sides that could not have had a more contrasting opening fortnight of the season. The Express have already staked their claim as one of the teams to beat this season, while the Demons have had a bit of an up and down start to the year, and will be looking to change the script and bring some more consistency into their season.

Other teams that are in a similar situation is the Peninsula Waves and the Southern Saints, who face each other in the first clash on Wednesday night. The Saints are in a similar position to the Demons in being one win and one loss to start the year, while the Waves have had two big losses to start the year, and will be desperate to turn that around and show that 2024 will actually be a better year than previous years.

Wednesday’s second match is between a pair of sides who could not have had more similar starts to 2024. The Geelong Cougars and Melbourne University Lightning both picked up losses first up but won last week, so will be looking to maintain some consistency on the winners list. These two have also been some of the top teams of recent seasons and will be keep to prove they still are this season.

The North East Blaze have started their season off perfectly, but face a Western Warriors side this week keen for a quick rebound. The beginning of the Warriors’ VNL life has been a rocky won, but they have picked up a win already this season, and will be wanting to return to that winning momentum and show they belong at this level.

This round’s final match is two teams up and about for very different reasons. The Bendigo Strikers are coming off a week’s rest, while the City West Falcons are back on the winners list and looking for some continuing form.

This week’s bye is for the Hawks, who will get a chance to rest up after a tough outing last week.
