PREVIEW | VNL Round 4 – Blaze looking to keep burning

IT is already the one month mark of the 2024 VNL season, with plenty of intriguing matches on the cards again this week. The team with the bye this week is the City West Falcons, who get to rest up after a strong start to the year.

The North East Blaze have started the year perfectly and have a game in hand. They come up against a Bendigo side tonight, so the Blaze should expect a hungry opponent. However, the Strikers have the lowest goals for count in the league, so will be wanting to fix that if they want any hope of winning tonight.

Two other sides that will be desperate for wins tonight are Casey and the Western Warriors, who are second up tonight. Both only have one win each to start the year, and with goals for, goals against and therefore percentage eerily close together, these two will be wanting to get a big win in tonight and really get their season going.

The Southern Saints have again started the season well, but will want to avoid what happened last year happening again, so must beat tonight’s opponent Geelong in order to keep that potential fate at bay. Geelong for their part have also had a good start to the year, but with a percentage lagging behind the sides in front of them, will want a big win tonight to give that a boost.

Melbourne Uni Lightning on the other hand have had an up and down start to the year, and will be looking for a boost to get things going. They have the perfect opportunity to do that tonight against the Peninsula Waves, who again have had a poor start to the year and will be desperate to turn around their slump.

The final game tonight is the Express taking on the Hawks. The Hawks are coming off the bye and with a win could jump the fifth placed Falcons, and if things go really right could even jump the currently fourth placed Cougars. However, they have quite the challenge on their hands tonight in an Express side in strong form and currently the only side that is undefeated in the division.
