PREVIEW | VNL Round 5 – Sides seek breakthrough wins

AS the second month of the 2024 VNL season commences, the potentially season defining matches just keep on coming.

After coming so close to an inaugural win last week, the Bendigo Strikers might finally break through for it tonight. They face a winless Peninsula Waves side, so this might be the Strikers’ best chance for a win to date.

One match that certainly is more interesting after last week’s results is the Western Warriors taking on the City West Falcons. The Falcons are coming off a bye, but face a Warriors side that will be up and about after picking up their second ever win last week.

Another match that could potentially be very crucial for the victor is the one between Casey and the Hawks. Although they currently sit eighth and ninth on the ladder, they are both chasing their second win of the season and particularly for the Demons, they need the percentage boost to really kick their season into gear.

One match that may be in running for match of the round is the one between the Saints and the Express. The Express may be top of the table, but the Saints have been matching it with the top sides for the last little while, and can be a bit of a surprise packet.

The final match of the round could also be a fascinating one. There is also a three spot gap between the Lightning and Blaze, and although the Blaze are the only other undefeated side this season, the Lightning had a massive win last season and will be looking to take that new found form and maintain it.

Geelong are the ones who get to enjoy the bye this week, and get a well timed rest after a strong start to the season.
