WHILE the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) might be done and dusted for 2019, we will review a number of talented players who stepped up this year and take a look at just what they have to offer and how they can improve further.
DOB: 04/09/1996
Height: 192cm
Position: GK
Melbourne Vixens: Kadie-Ann Dehaney
Season overview:
Despite not getting a wealth of court time throughout 2019, Dehaney showed that she can be a real impact player for the Melbourne Vixens when called up credit to her height, reach and lean. She generates a lot of excitement with her go-get-it attitude.
Assets:
The lanky Jamaican goal keeper is an excitement machine and offers that x-factor element to an otherwise predictable Vixens line-up. Her clever footwork and impressive aerial skill is no mean feat, able to cause fear for the feeders whether it be in the air or at ground level. She can pluck the ball out of the air with her leap or shut down space with her deceptive speed. Dehaney is a smooth mover and is renowned for her good lean over the shot to force that little bit of doubt into the goalers’ minds. She pairs well with the likes of Jo Weston out the front with the duo combining to minimise options in the defensive third.
Improvements:
With very limited game time it is hard to have a continued impact on the game if you are frequently swapped in and out of the match which is often the case for Dehaney. Unable to lock down a starting position, Dehaney at times struggles to perform consistently and can sometimes get caught on the body resulting in costly penalties or turnovers. She has plenty of potential but will need to ensure that she keeps her penalties down and remains on the move to hunt the cross-court balls and impose herself in the defensive circle.
