Queensland Firebirds – Kim Jenner

Season overview:

It was a difficult year for the emerging defender, tasked with the challenge of overcoming some of the world’s most prolific and damaging goalers. Despite only winning one game for the year the young Firebird showed plenty of promise.

Assets:

Jenner took each challenge in her stride, standing up to the mounting pressure and showcasing every inch of her talent to have an impact on the game. She is renowned for her tenacity and desire to hunt the ball, often resulting in a deflection or intercept. The defender has plenty of potential thanks to her ability to find the loose ball and capitalise down the court with her speed and transition. In what was a trying season for the Firebirds, Jenner showed nothing but persistence, hard work and commitment highlighting her impressive work ethic. She can build pressure and works exceptionally well with partner in crime Tara Hinchliffe, with the two switching it up in the circle, confusing the space and forcing opposition goalers wide.

Improvements:

Still only 21-years-old and adjusting to the high tempo and physically demanding nature of SSN, Jenner will be hoping to work on her cleanliness to ensure she stays in play more often; known for giving the odd contact here and there. With an unquestionable intent to win the ball, she at times can run through players or misread the flow of the game forcing an unnecessary penalty or turnover, something that she will have to tidy up heading into next year. Another element will be her stamina to remain in the hunt for four quarters rather than fade in and out of the game.
