SSN signings week two: Clubs announce fresh faces

THE second week of Suncorp Super Netball 2022 player signings saw a heap of movement, with a number of players putting pen to paper across the competition. While last week saw predominantly players returning to their current/2021 clubs, this week has seen an influx of shock announcements, with a number of developing prospects either turning down contracts or opting to explore alternate options.

Amongst those big names were Tara Hinchliffe, Kiera Austin and Tippah Dwan, who were announced later to be heading to Sunshine Coast Lightning, Melbourne Vixens and Adelaide Thunderbirds, respectively. All three players were offered 2022 contract with their 2021 clubs (Queensland Firebirds (Hinchliffe and Dwan) and GIANTS Netball (Austin) but cited a fresh start as their reasoning for heading elsewhere. Later in the week, Kadie-Ann Dehaney headed to the Sunshine Coast Lightning, whilst West Coast Fever’s Olivia Lewis crossed the country to replace Dehaney at the Vixens.

A number of developing products have opted to find an alternative option for 2022, with a trio of Victorians in Sam Gooden (Adelaide Thunderbirds), Rudi Ellis (Firebirds) and Allie Smith (Vixens) all forced to look elsewhere for a 2022 contract, with Smith confirmed to be heading to the NSW Swifts. Hannah Mundy joins Rahni Samason and Maggie Lind with an official maiden contract, while Teigan O’Shannassy will return to the Swifts fray after being forced to forego her 2020 contract due to illness. Queensland Firebirds brought up Ruby Bakewell-Doran and Mia Stower from their training partner lists, whilst Hannah Petty and Elle McDonald (Adelaide Thunderbirds), and Maddie Hay (GIANTS Netball) were also among others re-signed to their clubs.
