Super Netball Preview Round 4: Top two clash highlights mid-week action
IT is not even 48 hours after the end of Round 3 of the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season, and another round is upon us again.
Tonight and tomorrow sees all teams play another match after only playing on the weekend, before they back up for their third match in the space of a week next weekend.
Melbourne Vixens vs West Coast Fever
Tonight at 6pm AEST
John Cain Arena
The top of the table clash, the two undefeated sides. After tonight someone’s undefeated run will come to an end. These two have been the teams to beat so far thus season, so expect an enthralling clash tonight.
There will be entertaining battles right across the court. Jhaniele Fowler and Sasha Glasgow on fire up one end verses Emily Mannix and Jo Weston, and the likes of Mwai Kumwenda up the other end contending with the likes of Courtney Bruce.
GIANTS Netball vs Queensland Firebirds
Tonight at 8pm AEST
Ken Rosewell Arena
Both of these sides are coming off losses on the weekend, so will be keen to bounce back as fast as possible. The GIANTS gained all their key players back on the weekend after Covid but couldn’t get the job done, while the Firebirds had quite the tussle against the Fever but ultimately couldn’t get over the top.
Some key players to watch are Donnell Wallam and Jo Harten. Both have had stellar seasons thus far, and will be key to their sides’ successes tonight.
Collingwood vs Sunshine Coast Lightning
Tomorrow at 6pm AEST
John Cain Arena
The Sunshine Coast Lightning are no doubt still on a high after a nail biting first win of the season on the weekend against Adelaide, and the confidence from that kind of win will hold them in good stead heading into this game.
Meanwhile Collingwood is still searching for its first win of the season, and although they have shown glimpses this season and matched it with some of the top sides for patches, they are still winless.
Adelaide Thunderbirds vs NSW Swifts
Tomorrow at 7:30pm ACST
Netball SA Stadium
These two sides had quite contrasting matches on the weekend. The Thunderbirds let one slip away against the Lightning, losing by the narrowest of margins. They were very much in the match and looked the better side for much of it, but ultimately just could not get the job done.
The Swifts on the other hand finally got their first win on the board on the weekend after accounting for the Magpies.
Adelaide has had the better start to the season and will probably go into the match as favourites, but the Swifts will be keen to use the win on the weekend as a motivational stepping stone to boost off and get their season really going.
Both sides will feel like they can win this, but the question will be which one can step up and deliver.
