Surprises not forthcoming but anticipation still high

ROUND 21 of the VNL season may not have brought many surprises, but it did still leave plenty to play for in the season finale next week.

Uni upset Blaze, finals spot in danger

In the biggest surprise result of the night, Melbourne Uni upset the North East Blaze by 13 goals to put the Blaze’s finals spot in danger heading into the final round.

The result was off the back of a brilliant first quarter from the Lightning, who blazed away to a 21 to nine quarter time lead. This left the Blaze a mountain to climb for the rest of the game, which they did not succeed in.

Express speed past Saints, top two still possible

The Boroondara Express have earnt themselves an eight goal win over the Southern Saints, keeping second spot on the ladder a viable possibility for them.

The Express made a strong start to the game, and although the Saints got within five heading into the last term, the Express held firm to take the win.

Bendigo adds a win, Waves earn unwanted stat

Bendigo picked up its eighth win of its debut campaign as it beat Peninsula by 17 goals to ensure the Wave end the year without a win.

The sides were actually tied at both quarter and half time, but the Strikers opened up a buffer in the third term and extended on it in the last.

Falcons continue to fly ahead of finals

The City West Falcons just cannot stop winning, this time defeating the Western Warriors by 26 goals.

The margin was only nine at the first change, but a 22 goal to 14 second quarter was where the Falcons really did the damage.

Hawks boost finals hopes with narrow win

The Hawks jumped up to third after narrowly defeating Casey by four goals.

Casey actually took the early lead, before the Hawks fought back and lead at every change after quarter time.
